In the category of totally pointless is Cool Retro Term. It’s an infinitely customizable Linux/Unix terminal emulator that makes it look like you’re working on a crappy old CRT monitor. It has some built-in profiles like Apple ][, DOS, etc. It can do monochrome green or amber. But I made a full-color profile for the sake of usability.
I turned off some of the “features” like horizontal sync flickering.
