The COVID vaccines rock. Period. I’m sick and tired of news articles with big headlines about how sick vaccinated people are getting with Omicron. That’s not the story. The real story is how sick unvaccinated people are getting with Omicron. The small number of breakthrough hospitalizations should be a side note, at the end of the article.
There’s new data out of Washington state yesterday. Depending on your age group, vaccination reduces hospitalization risk five-to-eight fold. Vaccination reduces risk of death to one thirteenth! That is still an extremely impressive medical intervention. The vast majority of stuff I prescribe, like antibiotics or cholesterol medicines, is nowhere near that effective.
